Spatio-temporal analysis of scour around complex offshore foundations published

The share of complex offshore structures continues to increase. Nevertheless, there are comparatively few studies related to scour at complex jacket structures or on the spatial evolution of scour. Insights into scour at complex offshore structures under clear-water and live-bed current conditions are now published:

Mario Welzel, Schendel A, Satari R, Neuweiler I, Schlurmann T. Spatio-temporal analysis of scour around complex offshore foundations under clear water and live bed conditionsOcean engineering. 2024 Apr 15;298:117042. Epub 2024 Feb 22. doi: 10.1016/j.oceaneng.2024.117042

Among other findings, the applied approach enables a dimensionless representation, revealing very similar normalised erosion depths under clear-water conditions for two complex structures with varying degrees of flow blockage. In addition, we analyse the pointwise scour development over time, highlight the spatio-temporal development and provide a comparison with jacket field data.

Our research has been conducted in the context of the SFB1463: Offshore Megastrukturen funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation. Thanks go out to Alexander Schendel, Ramish Satari, Insa Neuweiler and Prof. Dr. Torsten Schlurmann.
